The purpose of United We Serve: Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery is to enhance the capacity of faith-based and community organizations to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters.

This workshop builds on the momentum of President Obama's June 22, 2009 call to service for all Americans. The President's 81-day summer service initiative, United We Serve, challenges all citizens to get involved in their communities and start building a better future for the nation.

This is a joint workshop co-sponsored by the US Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the US Department of Health and Human Services Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. In the launch of DHS' United We Serve efforts, Secretary Napolitano said: "President Obama's call for service—today and everyday—plays a critical role in our efforts to prepare and protect the nation." HHS Secretary Sebelius said: "When it comes to protecting and preparing our communities, we all have a role to play. Working together, government and community organizations can help ensure we are prepared."

  • Promising Practices in Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery
  • National Response Framework (NRF)
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • How to Prepare for and Respond to H1N1 in Your Community
